Neal Stufano AIA is the principal and founder of NJCA. He is a New York State LicensedArchitect, as well as a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
He was educated at the University of Buffalo, and later graduated from NYIT's prestigious architecture and design school. Neal worked for MacAndrews and Forbes as their primary in-house architect for over a decade. Focusing on high-end residential interiors for the CEO as well as corporate interiors for MacAndrews and Forbes. Neal has 20 years of experience working with and maintaining relationships with many of NYC and Hamptons premier general contractors and interior designers.
When asked to describe the key to a life/work balance, Neal-James Stufano says, “When you do what you love, the balance is organic. My work inspires me and allows for creativity to flow, and it drives me as much as I drive it.” His answer is representative of the passion and intent at the core of his firm’s philosophy: “Life is too short. Build projects that matter, and be proud of what you build.” At the beginning of his career, Stufano had the opportunity to work for MacAndrews & Forbes and Ronald Perelman for well over a decade, which exposed him to the pressures, design aesthetics, budgets and trades that the world of high-end residential architecture requires. With these valuable experiences in hand, he founded NJ Caine Associates and built a team of architects, designers and experts, who each draw on their unique skills, education and outlook to contribute. Focused on Manhattan townhouses, apartments and homes in the Hamptons, the firm’s work lends itself to the full range of styles, but the overarching elegance and quality of a luxury residence is always present.
For NJ Caine, the key to this success lies in collaboration. At times, our clients and team collaborates with world-renowned decorators such as Jacques Grange and Jean-Louis Deniot, but every project includes the input of one variable—the client. “I give homework to all of my clients,” Stufano says. “I want to help them hone in on their personal style, so their home reflects their unique taste. That involvement is always what the homeowner talks about at the end of the project, and it’s what sets us apart from others.
He has provided probono work for the Board of Governors at Essex Corinthian Yacht Club in Essex, CT. and he has provided assistance to Hurricane Sandy victims.
Neal is an exceptional architect whose expertise is matched by his integrity and interpersonal skills. Results oriented and client focused.
I contracted the services of Neal Stufano to help me with a roof terrace
that faced both regulatory and architectural challenges. For Neal, this was
a small project, but he provided the same service and attention to detail he
would give an entire building. Moreover, his design was surprising, elegant
and in keeping with the 1927 building's sensibility. I would happily choose
Neal for my next project and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone in need
of vision and an ability to execute a plan.
Men at Work Construction recently had the opportunity to work with NJ Caine on a very complex project. NJ Caine fostered a professional and highly collaborative environment while bringing their knowledge and expertise to further the construction effort. Their professionalism, commitment to high standards and willingness to provide a quality outcome for all stakeholders is one of the reasons why Men at Work Construction would seek to team up with them again.

It is truly a pleasure for my wife and I to recommend our Architect, Neal-James Stufano
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found Neal and when we were looking to renovate our apartment on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. Neal came to us highly recommended and, after having the opportunity to meet with the firm and to hear their ideas for achieving our goals, our decision to select them was an easy one.
Neal is meticulous, knowledgeable, and is excellent at being able to combine a “big picture” view of the project while being keenly aware of the many smaller details. He has the ability to quickly assess the potential of the space and brought a highly creative vision to offer design options that we did not realize were possible
My wife and I feel extremely lucky to have had Neal working as a team on our behalf. At every step along the way we felt confident and comfortable that everything was in good hands.
If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to have Neal forward them to us.

Neal is currently working on our townhouse, we could not be happier. The Staff is extremely capable, and we love the renderings Jerry! We have found Neal and his staff to be energetic, creative, focused, reliable and they have made the whole process thus far fun.. Throughout the Landmarks review and community board reviews we felt we have been in good hands. We were just amazed at how knowledgeable Neal has been from all phases of the underpinning to the smallest detail of closet interiors. We knew the caliber of clients Neal has worked for in the past, but now see how that has benefited our home in style and value. I strongly recommend Neal and the whole office.

I have been very fortunate to have worked on many of Neal's projects for the past 14 years. He has proven himself time and again on a large range of projects and difficult personalities. I have never see Neal not think out of the box and tackle the most difficult deign and construction problems. He is not afraid to climb outside a building to inspect work, Hang from scaffold, goin the smallest crawlspaces or help direct structural steel beams into place. He is an old fashion architect with great design aesthetics. He is a valuable architect and I am happy to recommend him to anyone.
